Systems architect who builds computational foundations from scratch and ships them: floating-point arithmetic verified on FPGA silicon, a crash-proof storage engine whose only recovery mode is opening, a colour-managed compositor, a network time consensus client, a self-describing serialization format, an operating system booted on bare-metal ARM64, a P2P messenger running on a live network. Two decades of that habit pointed at light: cinema colour pipelines (US 11,893,758 B2; SHOTOVER; Chameleon in production use inside DaVinci Resolve), spectral imaging from X-ray to infrared, and Lumis, a shipping manual RAW camera that owns the sensor and captures scene-referred HDR by acquisition rather than bracketing. Underneath it all, twenty-one years of carrier RF, fiber and microwave transport across 46 states, and video timing from first principles: composite NTSC generated in bare Verilog, cameras genlocked over a free-space laser link. Two awarded patents, four pending, 51 public repositories. Never promises, proves.

Lumis — Manual RAW Camera

  • Dual-process zero-copy architecture: dedicated camera process owns the sensor, one shared ashmem frame buffer to the UI, mutual heartbeat watchdog; 30Hz frame-decoupled control poll so dial changes and saves land in ~33ms during 16s exposures

Chameleon — Spectral DSR Input Device Transforms

  • Solves a camera-native to reference matrix from full spectral reflectance under any illuminant (D65, D50, A, custom Kelvin, equal energy) with the observer as a parameter (CIE 2006 2°, film stock emulation): illuminant replacement rather than white balance, so mixed and off-standard light is handled correctly
  • Target recovery from any orientation or lens: FFT bullseye fiducial search, projective transform, 16-dot alignment mesh, Lagrange de-fishing onto a 7×6 patch grid, per-channel quadratic vignette solve, Reed-Solomon corrected 126-bit ring code for target type and serial
  • Ingests 20+ RAW formats including ARRI ARI and CinemaDNG; outputs calibrated DNG, 16-bit TIFF, VSF spectral data and DCTL for drag-on application in Resolve's Color page; OFX plugin over a C ABI bridge (2024–2025)
  • V4L2 live virtual camera with a real-time AR overlay of the corrected target composited back onto the physical target in frame (2024–2025)
  • Performance work held bit-identical by regression test: fused two-axis blur removing full-frame transposes, cache-blocked 32×32 transposes, table-driven Lagrange passes, GPU warp mesh composing three per-pixel stages at 56 nodes to replace an ~8s on-device path
  • Reports what a colourist actually needs: gamma linearity, IR contamination per channel, scene UV, patch cleanliness, target wear
VSF Colour — Spectrally-Defined Colourspaces
Rust, no_std capable · part of the Versatile Serial Format · 2025 – present
  • VSF RGB: monochromatic primaries at 703nm, 523nm, 462nm at the peaks of the AGB geometric-mean cone ratios, Illuminant E white, gamma 2; the specification is observer-agnostic and conversions are observer-updatable, so encoded colour survives every future CMF revision
  • Rec.2020 handled by its wavelength primaries (630, 532, 467nm) rather than its published xy, which don't match the wavelengths under any standard observer; sRGB, Rec.709 and Adobe RGB kept as a deprecated legacy module with spec-exact studio-range and asymmetric u8/u16 quantization paths and round-trip tests
  • Conversion matrices generated from CIE 2006 2° cone fundamentals by tool, never hand-typed; Spectrum types for SPDs and CMFs in .rodata; Spirix fixed-format constants for hardware targets
Colour Pipeline Consultant 2022 – 2025

  • Brought in to replace the sensor ISP colour path on SHOTOVER's stabilized aerial cinema platforms; designed and delivered a spectral pipeline producing Direct Scene-Referred relative IDTs in its place
  • Tested code and profiles across multiple sensors and stabilized systems; generated absolute IDTs for their camera set and left them a spectral reference target for relative IDTs on any future sensor or lighting
